Catherine Elizabeth "Bessie" Coleman was born December 30, 1898 in Anniston, Alabama to Thomas C. and Carrie Beasley Coleman. Her father was the Probate Judge of Calhoun County for many years. Bessie attended the University of Alabama, graduating Phi Beta Kappa in 1921. She was married to Walter Wade Robinson. Bessie collected information on many of the first settlers of Calhoun County and wrote a column for the local newspaper, Anniston Star, for many years highlighting a different pioneer in each article. Her genealogy collection is housed in the Alabama Room at the Public Library of Anniston-Calhoun County. Bessie Coleman died on August 23, 1989 at the age of ninety.
